In the 17th
century, someone was quoted as saying, "A place for everything and
everything in it’s place." It was my fourth grade teacher who
introduced this sentence to me, and it is the basis of how I have
lived my life.
To me, organizing is
putting like-kind things in convenient and easy to find places,
within reach of tasks the items are used for. All items used
frequently should be within easy reach, while items used less often
can be stored in a less convenient area. For example, in the
kitchen, things like serving-ware for special occasions can be
stored on a top shelf or even in the garage. In the office, files
not being currently worked with can be kept in a file drawer of the
desk, or a file box in the garage, which leaves the desk surface
clear for the work you are doing..
Being organized saves
time and money. When you can easily find what you are looking for,
it not only saves time, but you also save money because don’t have
to buy another one. Not only that, but according to the National
Dish and Soap Association, getting organized and reducing clutter
reduces housework by 40%!
Not everyone needs to
hire a professional organizer to get control of their home or
business. But some people don’t know where to start, nor have the
time to get organized. Others are going through a divorce or have
just lost a spouse, and are in immediate need of sorting through
possessions, which can be overwhelming in the best of circumstances.
This requires deciding what to keep, what to sell or donate, and
what to toss.
The hardest step for
most people is committing the time to start the first organizing
project. This is why a professional can be very helpful. Once you
make an appointment and meet with Denise you have begun the process.
Since only you know your needs and preferences, you will be involved
in the process, and you will learn the principles of organizing as
you work together.
By organizing the
space you have, you gain the extra space you are seeking. Proper
organizing is a one-time project. Good organizing creates a
maintenance-free system that uses your daily routines to keep it in
the same pristine condition as the day you finished organizing.
